- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Oak Island. To get the best value, try shifting your family's Wrightsville Beach vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic.
- Some property managers offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies usually offer renters an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Look for your local Wrightsville Beach area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines have offers and deals for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

- Some rental properties allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable pet guidelines before booking.

Some things to know before you go:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many difficulties.
- Lock your rental property while you're out! Don't let crooks ruin your family vacation.
- Make a record of any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Be respectful. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property a final time and scan for damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on great feedback to inspire future bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your review find their best rental home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
