Strategies to get the perfect vacation home experience:
Getting the best rental home value:
- The sooner your group can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are booked very early. Booking your vacation property up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Book your rental in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
- Some property managers offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
- Property management companies often offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guides have coupons for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Filter your search:
- Choose your vacation dates and maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. \"Her Choice\" - Canal Home, 5 Bedrooms \/ 3 Bathrooms has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the host before booking the rental. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you will need a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
- Does your group require specific amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
Know before you go:
- Take a copy of the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. Put the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many concerns.
- Lock your vacation home while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Record any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if a dispute arises.
- Be respectful. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a great vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
